Achieving Global Biodiversity Framework targets will require addressing not only the direct drivers of biodiversity loss but also the global financial rules that shape them. We argue that the current international financial architecture reinforces extractive development pathways, constrains investment in ecological transition, and limits ambitious environmental policy, which makes financial system reform an essential component of the transformative change needed for biodiversity protection.
